At least 25 shops in Waghoba Nagar in Thane district’s Kalwa area developed cracks after a nearby road broke on Thursday, though there were no reports of any casualties, civic officials said.
Thane Municipal Corporation’s regional disaster management cell head Avinash Sawant told PTI that the cracks have arisen due to the railways starting excavation work near the tracks to build a security wall.
“During this excavation work, a portion of an adjoining road collapsed, causing cracks in the walls of 25 shops.
“Civil and fire department officials are at the spot to assess the situation,” he said.
