The Gujarat government had included 111 villages in the irrigated area of the Fatewadi-Kharikat project.
Farmers have been demanding irrigation water supply for a long time. Sources said that Shah had recommended a permanent solution to the problems of these farmers.
Earlier this month, Shah and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel approved water from the Narmada project for 32 villages around the Nalasarovar lake, in which officials of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited were present. These villages have no source of water for irrigation and have been demanding it for years.
Gujarat’s general secretary, Pradeepsinh Vaghela, who is overseeing preparations for Shah’s visit, confirmed that the Union Home Minister would come to accept thanks from the villagers who got irrigation water after years.
Vaghela said that the people of Sanand assembly constituency have reposed faith in Shah. “Ever since Amit Shah became an MP, people used to say that if anyone can get him water, it is Shah. So he has organized a function to thank the Union Home Minister for making this possible.
Party sources said that last time Shah had got 65,000 additional votes from Sanand assembly, this move will increase the vote margin to 1 lakh.
Shah has been encouraging farmers growing mainly paddy and wheat to experiment with different crops and to have some options for cash-rich crops as well.
Shah will lay the foundation stone of a 100-bed hospital for laborers in Sanand. The hospital will cater to the migrant laborers who work in the area. Sources said there are many from Saurashtra and Kutch who migrate for work opportunities. There are others who have migrated from Rajasthan and other states and are working as labourers. The hospital will cater to their healthcare needs.
Shah is also expected to inaugurate the AMC office in Vejalpur.
