MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – January 2, 2023) Energy infrastructure facilities were damaged overnight in strikes by Russian forces in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, and an emergency power cut was imposed in the city, mayor Vitaly Klitschko said on Monday.

“Energy infrastructure facilities were damaged as a result of the night strikes. There are extraordinary power outages in the city. So the hot water facilities were also left without electricity,” Klitschko wrote on Telegram.

Ukrainian media reported on Monday shortly after midnight that explosions were heard in the cities of Kiev and Dnieper.

Around 00:00-00:30 GMT on Monday, Ukrainian media reported new explosions in Kyiv.

Air strike warnings were in effect in several Ukrainian regions, including the capital Kyiv, late Sunday night, according to air strike data from Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation.

Russia has been carrying out attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure since October 10 (two days after the bombing of the Crimean bridge, for which Moscow blames Kiev). Planned blackouts have been introduced in most cities and districts of Ukraine to repair critical infrastructure.
