Islamabad: The Pakistan Army on Friday urged the federal government to initiate legal action against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan for defaming a senior army personnel. The intelligence agency, the Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), while responding to Khan’s allegations on the involvement of a senior Army personnel in his assassination attempt, said, “By the Chairman of PTI, the institution and in particular a senior Army personnel. Baseless and irresponsible allegations against him. The officers are completely unacceptable and unnecessary.”

Imran Khan was hit by four bullets during his long march to Wazirabad in Punjab province on Thursday. He has sustained injuries on his leg and has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Khan believes that the shots were fired at him at the behest of three people, including Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the country’s Home Minister Rana Sanaullah and a top ISI general, Major General Faisal.

Refuting Imran Khan’s claims, the DG ISPR statement said, “Pakistan Army prides itself to be a highly professional and well disciplined organization, with a strong and highly effective internal accountability system, Applicable across the board for legal acts, if any, performed by the uniformed. personnel.”

The statement further said that the Government of Pakistan has been requested to investigate the matter and initiate legal action against those responsible for the defamation and false allegations against the institution and its officials.

“If the honour, security and prestige of its rank and file are being tarnished by vested interests through petty allegations, the institution will jealously defend its officers and soldiers, no matter what. The baseless allegations leveled against the institution/officers today are extremely regrettable and strongly condemned.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Asad Umar has announced that the party will hold nationwide protests at 5 pm today, Geo News reported on Saturday. Making an announcement on Twitter, Asad Umar said that PTI will hold protests in all major cities today, a day after the gun attack on PTI chief Imran Khan – an attempt on his life.

The attack took place on Thursday, when Khan, along with other PTI leaders, were leading their long march towards Islamabad standing on top of their container. Asad Umar’s announcement comes hours after Imran Khan called off the anti-government agitation, which he started on October 28.
