Birmingham: Along with athletes, para-athletes are also performing super in the Commonwealth Games. Para weightlifter Sudhir created history by winning gold medal in Commonwealth Heavy Weightlifting for the first time. Sudhir lifted 208 kg and 212 kg respectively in two attempts in men’s heavy weight final which was held after midnight on Thursday. In the third attempt, he could not lift the weight of 217 kg. With this, he won the gold with a Games record of 134.5 points.
On the other hand, Murali Sreesankar won the silver medal in men’s long jump. In the fifth attempt, Murali jumped a distance of 8.08 meters and stood in second place. Lucas Nairn (Bahamas) also jumped 8.08 meters, but the second best performance was 7.98 meters and the gold was assured. Shankar’s second best performance was 7.84 meters.
