Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja says the experience of giving responsibility to administrative officers in Sindh during local body elections has not been good.

The Chief Election Commissioner said during a hearing in the Election Commission regarding the irregularities in local elections in Karachi that if the malfeasance is proved, not only will the result be correct, but action will be taken against those responsible.

During the hearing in the Election Commission, the lawyer of Jamat-e-Islami spoke, who cited the case of 6 trade union councils as an example only. There is a difference of one to two thousand votes between the results of the chairman and the returnee in each union council count.

According to the lawyer, there were 546 votes of People’s Party and 2088 votes of Jamaat-e-Islami as per form 11. In the final results, the RO reduced the votes of PPP to 1988 while that of Jamaat-e-Islami. The PTI candidate also presented a video of the beating in Orangi town.

PPP’s lawyer said that Jamaat-e-Islami’s request was premature and unheeded, that they should show sportsmanship.

The Chief Electoral Commissioner noted that sportsmanship was shown by the players. Is it possible to quickly formulate a conclusion even if it is wrong? Strict action will be taken against the facilitators along with the editors.

The Election Commission has directed Jamaat-e-Islami to submit all the material, including Form 11, within 7 days. The RO and DRO have also been asked to respond in the next hearing.

The Chief Election Commissioner said that efforts are being made to get the services of administrative officers but this experience has not been good in Sindh. Municipal elections will also be held in Punjab and Islamabad. It will take some time, but inshallah everything will be fine.
