Olivia Cooke will now play the Queen and Emma D’Arcy will play the Princess. While they have been playing the same character at different stages of their lives, the makers decided that they did not want the pairings to meet during production.

Alcock told Reuters: “There was no stick to go on. I haven’t spoken to Emma. I’ve only met her a few times, which is why this whole experience has been so weird, ‘Oh we’re the same person. But I’ve never actually met you’.”

Confirming these terms, Carey said ‘House of the Dragon’ Premiere, “It became clear very quickly that it was a choice and not an accident that we hadn’t met and I guess what it is, that in 10 years you change a huge amount, especially when you see someone younger.” Watching girls go from full grown women is a huge change. It was almost inevitably like we were playing two different characters, two very different people.”

Cook, however, was unaware that the pair of actors should not interact with each other, despite filming at the same time, and stated that he had spoken to them several times. She learned about the arrangement only at the Hollywood premiere.

“I just heard he was told to stay away from us and me and Emma never got the memo to stay away from him, so we were like ‘Oh my god, how are you looking for this? What’s going on? Used to be?’ And maybe it was really bad for their process.”
